RULES FOR PRINCIPAL

Principal is the head of the institution and hence the first responsible person of the college. As the academic leader, he/she has to over see that the institution runs properly in accordance with its vision and mission. He/she is a source of inspiration to the teaching and non teaching staff as well as to the students of the college. He/she should be an epitome of professionalism, dedication and honesty. He is a knowledgeable person in education and service rules and also in the university statutes and higher education department same. He/She is role model for staff and students.

Role and Responsibilities 

  • Conceive and implement new ideas and plans democratically in accordance with the vision and mission of the college.
  • Promote institutional interaction and inculcate research development

Role of Principal as per Statutes, University of DAVV- Indore

In every college, the principal shall be the head of the college and shall be responsible for the internal management and administration of the college. In the absence of the principal, the senior-most Professors or in his absence the senior–most Lecturer of the College shall be in charge of the duties of the principal. In case of some requirement, the management will appoint someone as assistant principal.

Research Responsibilities

The research responsibilities of the Head of College will include:

  1. Coordinating the development and implementation of a research strategy for the College and ensuring that this is consistent with the University research strategy.

Responsibilities in the areas of Teaching and Learning 

  • Liaise closely with relevant senior University officers in developing College academic and teaching- learning strategy in keeping with the overall University strategy.
  • Stimulate an on-going process of enhancement of the quality and standards of all teaching and learning activities.
  • Ensure the provision of management and support for all academic programmes within the remit of the College

Planning and Administration Responsibilities 

Working with the College Manager, the responsibilities of the Head of the College in the area will include:

  1. Leading the establishment, updating and delivery of the College Strategic Plan, in line with the University Strategic Plan.
  2. In collaboration with the relevant University Officers, putting in place College level administrative supports and committees compatible with university structures and policies, to allow the College to function effectively by providing adequate support to the academic and research units.
  3. Promoting the development of internal structures within the College that allow for the evolution and development of the College and its various academic disciplines.
  4. Compatible with University policies, developing and implementing a College strategy to recruit and retain the best academic, research, technical and administrative staff.
  5. Working with the Heads of academic (Subject department) and heads of units (Lab, Office, Library, specific responsibilities NSS, etc.,) to ensure that effective management structures are in place for each unit.
Student Related Responsibilities 
  1. Contributing to the development of national and international student recruitment initiatives to attract the highest quality students.
  2. Working within the University-wide structures to establish, manage and enhance academic, welfare and personal support for students.
  3. Putting in place programs to facilitate and encourage the national mobility of students both outward and inward.
  4. Implementation of University policy one quality and widening participation at the college
  5. Helping to ensure the quality of the overall student experience within the
  6. Encouraging students to prepare for the competitive exams.
  7. Motivating students to attend in regular classes.
 
Staff Management and Development 
  • Orientation and guidance to staff in the understanding of their role and contribution to the College and the University.
  • Effective planning and development review, including the management of staff performance and performance reviews.
  • Support for the professional development of all staff in the
  • Implementation of the University’s Performance Management
  • Management of other human resource functions with the support and in consultation with the Human Resources Department – including but not limited to – recruitment, selection, induction, probation, administration, performance management and grievances
 

RULES FOR STAFF

FOR TEACHERING AND NON-TEACHING STAFF

The Code and conduct of teaching and non-teaching staff in Sacred Heart College of Arts and Science are mainly governed by MP Rules and University DAVV statute within management governance.

  1. During the period of service all the members of the staff shall discharge their duties honestly and efficiently abiding by the timely directions from the Head of the Institution.
  2. No member of the staff shall engage in any explicit political activity within the college campus.
  • All the members of the staff must attend punctually at the appointed time and shall not leave before the college closes for the day.
  1. All the members of the staff, both teaching and non-teaching must sign regularly in the attendance register which is to be maintained by the head of the institution.
  2. Attending for duty 15 minutes later than the appointed time without prior permission shall be recorded as late attendance.
  3. For every four days of late attendance in a calendar month an employee will lose one day casual leave for which he is eligible.
  • Each teacher shall be available in the institution on each working day and shall perform such duties as assigned to him/her. The routine duties shall consist of 16 hours teaching/practical per week. In addition, they have to undertake the conduct of examinations or tests, evaluation, invigilation work, mentoring, general assistance to students in their academics, co-curricular and extracurricular activities and other institutional support activities as required.
  • The normal working period for those in the category of clerical staff shall be 9.30 am to 00 pm with half an hour lunch break on all working days.
  1. Normal working period for last grade staff shall be 8.00 am to 5.00 pm with half an hour lunch break on all working days including Saturdays.
  2. In pursuance of the general interests of the college all staff shall be required to attend duties on any national and festival holidays in case, function to celebrate such occasions are organized by the college.
  3. It is compulsory for every teacher to participate in one ‘Faculty Development Programme’ in a session.
  • It is compulsory for every teacher to publish one research paper in a session.
  • All the members of the staff should observe the leave policy which is mandate for the regulation of the college.
Leave Rules – General 
  • Leave cannot be claimed as a matter of
  • Discretion to refuse or revoke leave of any description is reserved to the authority empowered to grant it.
  • Written application well in advance is required for the grant of
  • No officer shall leave the place before getting intimation from the authorities

Casual Leave 
  • A permanent teaching staff is eligible for 15 days Casual Leave in a calendar year provided they have sufficient reason to avail it.
  • Non-teaching staffs are eligible for 18 days casual leave in a calendar
Half Pay Leave 

Besides the casual leave, every permanent staff member is eligible for 20 days leave on half pay for every completed years of service. They shall also be allowed to commute the half pay leave to full pay provided they will lose two days HPL.

  1. Attendance –
  • The arrival time of every teacher and employee will be 9:50 am. So everyone should be present on time.
  • A prayer meeting will be organized every day at 10 am, in which everyone’s presence is mandatory.
  • The staff coming after the scheduled time for 4 days in a month will be considered as having one day’s leave.
  • Biometric attendance will be checked every month and necessary disciplinary action will be taken against the staff coming late.
  1. On-duty leave –
  • Teachers and employees going on on-duty leave will record the details of the leave along with the reason in the prescribed register, so that information about your leave can be obtained.
  1. General leave –
  • Every teacher and employee will have the right to take one leave per month.
  • In case of taking leave for more than three consecutive days, it will be mandatory to take prior approval from the college director.
  • Every staff will be eligible to take 15 casual leaves in a session.
  • In case of not obtaining prior approval for leave, salary deduction will be done and necessary action can also be taken by the management.
  1. Others –
  • All teachers should be present in their respective classes on time as per the timetable.
  • Every teacher will have to maintain a daily register, the format of which will be given to you at the beginning of the session.
  • Every teacher will have to maintain the daily attendance of the students and get it signed by the Head of Department/ Principal/ Director at the end of each week.
  • Apart from teaching, teachers will also have to complete other tasks given to them within the time limit if required and inform the Head of Department/ Principal/ Director.

Role of Teachers in Class Room and Staff Room

  1. All teachers should maintain complete discipline in the college and also motivate students to remain disciplined.
  2. All teachers should be present in their class on time and should not leave their class under any circumstances. All teachers should available in their class for the entire time, whether students are present or not. If required, they will be called by the Secretary/ Principal/ Head of Department, only then should they leave their class.
  3. Take attendance of students in the prescribed format every day and keep the daily record with you, present it when asked.
  4. Motivate students to attend class regularly. Always teach while standing in the class, and take teaching material-book, duster, chalk etc. with you.
  5. Do not use mobile in front of students in the class and do not let students use it. If found, disciplinary action can be taken.
  6. Take proper care of the cleanliness of the class and if you find dirt, immediately inform the office and get it cleaned.
  7. In case of students being absent from the class, turn off the extra lights and fans.
  8. Reach the lab before the students enter and turn off the lights completely only after the students leave. In case of your absence, take full care that the students will not sit alone in the lab.
  9. Complete your syllabus on time and taking tests of the students time to time and also provide them small assignments etc.
  10. Make full efforts to arouse interest in studies in the students. For this, you can use new methods of teaching, for which you are free. The college administration will fully support you.
  11. Apart from teaching, other moral education should also be given to the students like giving them practical and social knowledge through inspirational stories, motivating them to maintain physical and mental hygiene, alerting them to stay away from vices, making them aware of the serious consequences of vices, motivating them to live a disciplined life, motivating them to read magazines, newspapers, good novels, etc. apart from the curriculum.
  12. All the teachers will also provide their full cooperation in the examination work. The work related to preparing the question papers on time, evaluation and sending the marks to the university will be done seriously.
  13. All the teachers should behave decently in the classroom. Do not talks loudly; watch audio-video on mobile etc. This creates a negative image of the teachers among the students. Therefore, please take care of these small things.
  14. Complete the additional work assigned by the college administration within the time limit and inform.
