Mental Health Club

The Mental Health Club at Sacred Heart College is dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive campus environment that prioritizes the psychological well-being of students, faculty and staff. Its primary mission is to mitigate academic pressure, prevent self-harm, and ensure the early identification and treatment of mental health concerns. By implementing a robust framework of safeguards, the club aims to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and ensure that seeking help is seen as a proactive step toward wellness.

Legal Framework and Statutory Compliance: The club operates in strict adherence to the landmark Supreme Court of India judgment issued on 24th March 2025.

  • Constitutional Mandate: Under Article 32 and Article 141 of the Constitution of India, these guidelines are declared as law to enforce fundamental rights.
  • Regulatory Alignment: The college follows Para 35 (mental health safeguards for educational institutions) and Para 37 (student protection norms) of the judgment.
  • External Monitoring: The club’s activities align with the District Level Monitoring Committee chaired by the District Magistrate to ensure compliance with national safety standards.
 

Core Mental Health Safeguards: To provide comprehensive care, the club oversees the following initiatives:

  • Mental Health & Well-being Centre (MHWBC): A dedicated hub on campus staffed by qualified counsellors, psychologists, or social workers to provide crisis support and awareness programs.
  • Stepped-Care Approach: A structured treatment model that matches the intensity of support to a student’s specific needs ranging from self-help and group sessions to intensive individual counselling.
  • Academic Flexibility: The provision for reduced course loads or alternative assignments for students struggling with documented mental health conditions.
 

Crisis Response and Confidentiality: All services provided by the club and the MHWBC are free, confidential and accessible (including virtual options). The college maintains clear, written protocols for immediate referral to local hospitals and professionals when necessary.
