Anti Ragging Committee

The Anti-Ragging Committee at the institution is established to ensure strict compliance with the regulations of the University Grants Commission (UGC), AICTE, and relevant laws concerning the prevention of ragging. The committee maintains a zero-tolerance policy, fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment where the fundamental right to human dignity is protected.

Objectives and Mandate

The primary objectives of the committee are:

  • Awareness: To educate students on the dehumanizing effects and inherent perversity of ragging.
  • Prevention: To maintain a continuous watch and vigil over campus activities to prevent the occurrence or recurrence of ragging.
  • Enforcement: To promptly and stringently address any reported incidents and ensure no act of ragging goes unpunished.
  • Discipline: To signal a clear message that ragging will not be tolerated, thereby creating a disciplined atmosphere.

The committee for the 2025-2026 academic years consists of faculty, staff and student representatives to ensure comprehensive monitoring:

Defining Ragging

As per the Supreme Court of India and AICTE regulations, ragging includes any act by a student or group that involves:

  • Indiscipline and Teasing: Any conduct (spoken or written) that treats a fresher or student with rudeness, annoyance, or psychological harm.
  • Academic Disruption: Activities that prevent or disturb regular academic tasks.
  • Physical and Sexual Abuse: All variants of physical harm, assault, sexual abuse, or forcing gestures that endanger health.
  • Financial Extortion: Forceful expenditure or extortion put on a student.
  • Dignity Infringement: Any act of public insult, derivation of perverted pleasure from another’s discomfiture, or acts affecting mental health and self-confidence.
 

Operational Functions and Measures

The committee, supported by an Anti-Ragging Squad, performs the following duties to maintain vigilance:

  1. Surprise Inspections: Conducting visits to “hotspots” such as the canteen, terrace, parking areas, and bus stops.
  2. Counseling: Providing guidance to both junior and senior students regarding the consequences of ragging.
  3. Awareness Programs: Organizing meetings and displaying contact details of committee members at prime locations across the campus.
  4. Reporting Channels: Providing confidential channels for students to report incidents without fear of retaliation.
 

Administrative Penalties

Students found guilty of ragging, whether inside or outside the campus, are liable for severe punishments.

  • Suspension from attending classes or academic privileges.
  • Debarring from appearing in examinations or representing the institution in tournaments and festivals.
  • Withdrawal of scholarships and other benefits.
  • Rustication for a period of one to four semesters or cancellation of admission.
